New Student Registration

Welcome! Glad you're here!

Attention: Families New to SKPS Straub  for the 2025-2026 School Year

Are you the parent/guardian of a student who is currently…

  • enrolled in another school district?
  • homeschooled?
  • enrolled in a private/charter school?
  • enrolled in an online program outside of SKPS (Salem Keizer Public Schools)?
  • a planned, future 6th grade student from one of our West Salem feeder elementary schools?

If any of the above are your situation, you live in the Straub Middle School residency area and are looking to enroll with us again, this information is for you!

You may be wondering what you need to do in order to make sure your student(s) is/are all set for the 2025-2026 school year. Below you will find key information to help you navigate registration as a new family.

Where should I start?

Your first step as a parent should be to create a ParentVUE account. All parents and caregivers in our district need a ParentVUE account. If you are new to our district, please create a ParentVUE account online. You can use ParentVUE to check your child's attendance, grades, edit contact information and more throughout the year.

Okay, I created a ParentVUE account. Now what?

Once you have created a ParentVUE account, you can begin the registration process for your child online

If you do not have a personal email, you can create one for free with Google.

What if my student isn’t new because they’ve attended public school before in Salem-Keizer?
Previously Enrolled Students: If your student was previously enrolled in Salem-Keizer Public Schools and is now returning after attending a different school district, please register through ParentVUE. If you do not recall what your login information is or your account shows as locked/deactivated, please contact Sarah Jackson via email at jackson_sarah@salkeiz.k12.or.us or via the Straub Office Main Line at (503) 399-2030.

What if my student last attended an elementary school in West Salem and is now going to be an incoming 6th grade student?

If you are a 5th grade family in the Straub MS residency area, we encourage you to complete online registration for the 2025-26 school year as soon as possible. Our feeder schools will be handing out forecasting and informational materials after their 5th grade visit to Straub on April 14th.You should be seeing these come home. Forecasting sheets will need to be returned to 5th grade teachers by April, 25th 2025. Once we have received those forecasting sheets, we will be entering them into our system and canvassing for any missing information. Scheduling will not start until August along with all of our other students. Please scroll further for important 6th grade dates!

What about new students from families who are returning to public school in Salem-Keizer?

Returning Families: If you do not currently have a student in Salem-Keizer Public Schools , but you have an existing ParentVUE account used for a previous student (maybe an older sibling to the student you are trying to enroll), you will use the same ParentVUE account to register any new or rejoining students in our district. If you do not recall what your login information is or your account shows as locked/deactivated, please contact Sarah Jackson via email at jackson_sarah@salkeiz.k12.or.us or via the Straub Office Main Line at (503) 399-2030.

You can identify the school your student will attend using our Find my School and Bus Route Finder app or call the SKPS Boundary Information line at 503-399-3246.

I have finished Online Registration. When am I going to hear back from someone at Straub MS?

OLRs will start being processed from April through June and then again in August (with a brief summer vacation break during July for staff). Registrations will be processed in the order they were received.

You will receive an intake phone call at the time of registration approval. The intake process consists of a few questions and an email verification. Using said verified email, you will receive an intake packet that includes a course selection sheet and other applicable informational materials. Upon registration approval, Straub will use the information provided during online registration to request records from your students' previous school. You are not required to provide or acquire any educational records. However, if you have physical copies of IEPs, 504 Plans, Behavior Plans, Safety Plans or even Legal Documents (restraining orders, POAs, guardianship, etc) please notify us during your intake phone call.

Any important dates I need to know about?

As a matter of fact, yes! Please mark these dates on your calendar (if applicable)...

  • 6th Grade Orientation Night (Open House) - April 17th from 6:00-7:15 pm

I feel like I am already behind! What is your timeline for new students and class scheduling?

Our current 6th and 7th graders have already been surveyed and have registered for classes. We have their selections but none of those have been placed nor will they be until August along with all of our newly enrolled students and incoming 6th graders from our feeder elementary schools. So relax! You are not behind!

We look forward to seeing you and your student(s) throughout the summer and in the fall!

Welcome Future Wolves!
