Track & Field 2017

Dear Track Athletes and Parents,

The 2017 track season is upon us and we are excited about Straub’s Track team.
We are interested in partnering with you this season for fun and fitness.
We have three main goals this year: get in shape, have fun competing, and exemplify sportsmanship!

The coaching staff this year includes: Lindsey Girod, Josiah Phillips, Joshua Thorp, and Bryon Mack.

Starting on April 3rd practices will be every day, Monday – Friday from 2:50 – 4:20.  Parents, please pick your athlete up before 4:30pm.  Attendance issues / failure to leave the school by 4:30 will affect an athlete’s availability for meets.

Track meets are on Wednesdays or Thursdays. On these days it is important to bring your uniform, water, and a snack for after school.  When school gets out, go directly to the locker room to change and pack your bag for the bus.  We will take attendance before leaving. Once we get to the Track Meet, we will warm up together and then begin to compete in events.

We are encouraging all athletes to participate in three events. An athlete can participate in a fourth event if they qualify for a relay team. To be on a relay team an athlete must demonstrate good sportsmanship, have strong attendance, and have one of the top times for the event.

Parents, at an away meet, please make sure your child has checked out with a coach before leaving.  Please make it a priority to let us know you are taking your child.  We have to keep track of 100+ students and their safety is crucial to us. If you will be picking up your child at Straub after a meet, please be prompt. Students, text or call your ride once you are on the bus back to school.  Also, please pack warm clothes! Track meets go on, rain or shine.

At the bottom of this letter is a schedule of all the meets including the all-city meet. We host a meet on Wednesday, April 26th at West. We host another meet against Walker on Thursday, May 5th at West. If you are able to volunteer for one of these meets, your help would be greatly appreciated! Please email me if you can volunteer at: phillips_josiah@salkeiz.k12.or.us.  Another way to help is to bring snacks for the team.  Please drop any snacks off at the main office.  Thanks!

We hope that this sport will be a great experience for your family.
Please don’t hesitate to email any of us at our school email with additional questions.

Excited for the 2017 season,

Josiah Phillips
